You may have to look beyond the dry, oily, combination, or sensitive skin-type. In this modern age, with medical advancement and innovative skincare products, skin types have to be expanded to provide precise information for better care.

The Baumann Skin Type Indicator (BSTI) designed by Leslie S Baumann gives us more insight on the skin behavior to help consumers and practitioners in making sense of the numerous available skin care formulations and selecting the most suitable products. The BSTI is based on the identification of skin type using four parameters: dry or oily, sensitive or resistant, pigmented or nonpigmented, and wrinkled or unwrinkled (tight). A four-letter skin type designation is derived from the answers to a set of questions and considers all the four skin parameters at once.
